Glossier - My honest Initial thoughts

It’s pretty fair to say that Glossier has revolutionized the way we buy, use and view makeup and skincare. As soon as I saw that their slogan was “skin first, makeup second” and with me being a huge advocate for looking after your skin, I knew this beauty revolution was one that I could get on board with. I admit I had my doubts when I first heard about the brand. I saw the millennial pink branding, simplified packaging and easy-to-digest wording as just another marketing tool used to lure in us beauty obsessed millennials - but by Jove, did it work.

Emily Weiss, CEO and creator of the Glossier brand knew what she was doing right from the start. Ever since we saw her little cameo in ‘The Hills’ when she was branded the “super Intern” by the likes of Lauren Conrad and Whitney Port, we knew she would be a force to be reckoned with. Weiss’s marketing strategy was always geared around the internet, more specifically social media, to generate interest in the products. Rather than spending enormous amounts of money on traditional Marketing, she utilized the power of the influencer (or blogger if you like) to gain a reaction. You ask any millennial who owns a social media account about Glossier, chances are they will be able to gush about the brand and their products endlessly. Ask your mother, or a woman over the age of 38 who doesn’t hold an online presence, I’m sure they will be oblivious.

This is a brand that was made for the millennial, switched-on generation. A generation that wants to know exactly what the hell is in the products they are buying. A generation who won’t take any more fluffy bullshit from brands who claim to sell the "ultimate wrinkle-busting" product for a little shy of £50.00. We are in the midst of a wellness and woke as fuck beauty-boom. We are young, career-focused women who don't have time in the mornings to spend hours on end applying layer, upon layer of makeup. We workout, we run, we move our bodies and we want skincare and makeup that is going to move with us. We want to look youthful, glowing and wear the barely-there makeup look with confidence. And Weiss gets it. She gets us. If you want to learn more about the brand, read this fantastic piece

I admit, pretty late to the Glossier bandwagon (but none the less still very much settled onto it) I decided to give the products a whirl myself. I picked up the Milk Jelly cleanser, Solution (which has only just recently been released), and the facemask duo pack. I have only been using the products for a little shy of two weeks so this post will be an honest first-impressions review. No #AD in sight.

Ok. I have to be completely honest with the one, when I first heard about it I thought how could there possibly be so much buzz around a cleanser. A bloody cleanser!! But on first use, I could see exactly why people love this product so much. First off the texture is exactly like that of milk jelly. I mean its super weird how bang on they got the name. I must also just say that I don’t use this to take off my makeup, I remove my makeup before and just use this to double cleanse, but it is the most luxurious, moisturising and wonderful cleanser I think I have ever used. The feel of it when you massage it into your skin is just sublime, and you can honestly feel it moisturising and rehydrating straight away. Once it's washed off using warm water and a flannel, my skin feels squeaky clean and soft as a baby’s bottom. You will want to follow quite quickly with a toner and moisturiser however as it can leave your skin feeling slightly tight a few minutes after. There is also no scent to this product which means 0 perfume or nasty’s have been used in the formula - which is a good thing btw. First impressions of this product definitely didn’t disappoint.

Perhaps I will notice the benefits of this product after a few weeks use, but so far I haven’t been blown away. To me, it is very similar to the PIXI glow tonic, again another toner which uses acid as a key ingredient. Glossier’s solution includes a number of different AHA and BHA acids which claim to tighten and tone pores. The product does feel refreshing when swept over the skin and slightly tingly, but nothing to write home about. I feel this product may be one that has the desired effect after a few weeks use, so I will report back then.

I have only used this mask once whilst having a pretty indulgent evening last week which consisted of a long bath and a glass of red (aren’t they the best nights?) but I can already see this product being my go-to for a real deep cleansing and hardworking mask. Branded on the website as a "Green Juice for your face" it works by drawing out impurities and excess oil from your skin, I mean it feels super creamy when you apply and you can definitely feel it getting deep into your pores... so that statement has some truth to it. It takes about 20 minutes to dry, I think I left mine on for about half an hour, which I like to do as I think the longer the better maybe? After use, my skin felt super clean and looked clearer and brighter, my pores also felt much tighter. It does slightly sting when you first apply which you should be aware of, but nothing major and personally I quite enjoy the sensation, as to me it means it’s doing something.

Moisturising Moon Mask-£18.00

Ok, so this mask is an absolute delight to use. Brimming with Hyaluronic acid, its one of those products that work in a similar way as a sheet mask, looking to give your skin back its moisture rather than taking it away. I applied this after the mega greens mask to give my skin a bit of a soothing treat and honestly it really really worked. This goes on sort of like a really heavy moisturising cream, it feels heavenly to apply and really sinks into the skin quite well. I left it on for about 40 minutes, once the times up you will notice that the mask has completely absorbed into the skin and it almost looks as if you aren't wearing anything. Once I washed the mask off my skin felt super soft and hydrated, quite similar results to when I use a Garnier moisture bomb sheet mask. I couldn't say which mask is my favourite out of the two as they work very differently, but using them as a duo worked wonders for my skin - quite time-consuming but worth it.

In conclusion to my review I would easily say that on first impressions, these products have definitely got me excited. In all honesty, there was a small part of me that sort of hoped it would all be hype and they would actually be pretty bog standard, but alas they are not and I now totally get the hype. These products, and Glossier as a brand are changing the makeup and skincare game, and I for one can't wait to see what Weiss does next.
